Cascade Pump Company manufactures full lines of axial flow and mixed flow pumping equipment. Two axial flow lines cover a range of flow from 400 to 200,000 gallons per minute at heads up to 30 feet per stage. Three mixed flow lines cover a range of flow from 500 to 100,000 gallons per minute at heads up to 70 feet per stage. Pumps can be built with multiple stages to increase head range.

Typical Pump Configurations

Besides our typical pump configurations above, Cascade Pump, has the ability to manufacture custom designs for specific installations. Please consult your Cascade distributor or the factory for further information on your system requirements.

Vertical installations are the most common configuration. Water is pumped from an open sump or wet well vertically and is discharged horizontally. Typical applications using this type of installation are flood control, water and sewage treatment plants, utility services (cooling tower, condenser circulating), irrigation, water features, amusement parks, etc.

Slant mount installations are used typically for irrigation, field dewatering and flood control. This design can be used when the cost of a vertical installation is prohibitive. The pump is mounted on the slope of a canal or embankment. Water is either pumped over or through a levee.

Horizontal installations are used typically for increasing the pressure of the fluid in a piping system. The suction end of the pump connects to piping from the water source. The discharge end is connected to system piping. A positive suction inlet pressure is required for this type of pump.

Can or Barrel Pump installations are used typically for increasing the pressure of fluid in piping systems. Applications include booster pumps for condensate and other fluids that have very low NPSH characteristics. This type of installation is effective in surface piping systems due to the in-line arrangement of suction and discharge connections. The design of the can is critical because it affects the hydraulic operation the pump.

Pull out installations are used typically on large pumps. The pump design consists of fitting a removable bowl assembly (pumping element) within a permanently installed outer column and discharge head. The complete bowl assembly, shafting, and column can be pulled without disturbing the pump mounting plate or discharge connection.

Dry pit installations are similar to the vertical open sump except suction piping is used to direct the flow of water into the pump. Positive inlet pressure is required for this type of pump. The design of the suction piping and elbow is critical for proper suction hydraulic operation.

Multiple discharge installations are similar to the vertical open sump. This pump design incorporates two or more discharge elbows from the vertical column of the pump. Control valves may be installed on each discharge so that the flow of water can be adjusted.

Vertical discharge installations are similar to the open sump except the water is discharged into an open chamber. Typical applications are storm water and effluent in a waste treatment plant. This installation may be supported on two floors. The upper floor supports the driver. The Lower floor supports the pump column and bowl assembly (pumping element).

Reverse pumping installations are similar to the dry pit design except the bowl assembly (pumping element) configuration is reversed. The water to be pumped enters the pump suction from above. Water is discharged downward and turned horizontally. A positive suction inlet pressure is required for this type of pump.
